Ongoing research project

Passive houses in Stenløse

The overall aim of the project is to ensure the best possible result and utilisation of the results from a building project carried out in accordance with a new ambitious development plan for Stenløse Municipality. The plan and easements on the publicly tendered plots stipulate that construction of low-energy buildings and recommend passive houses for the new development 'Stenløse Syd' in 2005. About 250 dwellings and dwellings for senior citizens and a childcare centre will be built in Phase 1. At a later stage an additional 500 dwellings will be built.

The requirements to the net space heating of the low-energy building project are 35 % below what is stipulated in the energy regulations of the Danish Building Regulations 2006 (BR) and 70 % below what is stipulated for passive houses. Converted to the energy frames in the current draft for new energy regulations in BR, it corresponds to a framework consumption of 30 % below low-energy building Category 2 and 35 % below Category 3, respectively.

The project will demonstrate that dwellings for the modern family can be built with an energy frame of 28-47 kWh/m2/years by applying low-energy technology (insulation, low-energy glazing and heat recovery). The buildings will be built on the usual conditions and as such must be competitive both technically and economically. Moreover attractive architectural design and high functionality are emphasised and also that the houses are based on solutions that can be developed into new standard concepts and products that could find widespread use in future low-energy buildings. The building activities of the project are closely followed from the design phase over the construction and operational phases to a concluding measurement and evaluation.

The experience gained will be related to that gained in Sweden and Germany on corresponding building projects and it will be communicated to other municipalities, clients and consultants.
