Innovative and energy efficient renovation of public buildings (BRITA in PuBs)
The aim of BRITA in PuBs is to increase the market share of innovative and efficient renovation solutions that can improve energy efficiency with only moderate additional costs. Nine public buildings in four participating European regions (north, central, south and east) have been selected for model renovation.
A wide rage of different types of public buildings like schools, cultural centres, and childcare centres, student hostels, churches etc. are renovated. Public buildings can be used as an incentive for increasing attention and for making Society more receptive to the energy debate.
The research effort will also include socio-economic investigations such as identification of requirements and strategies for financing in connection with planning of project evaluation of guidelines for design, development of internet-based knowledge tools with data on renovation initiatives, case studies and quality control to ensure that the building and the technical systems function well in the long term.
An important part of the BRITA project is the knowledge-disseminating phase. The dissemination is sub-divided into a minor part that concerns instruction of the users and the persons in charge of the buildings' maintenance. Furthermore a major part concerns the publication of research and demonstration results aimed at different target groups. This is implemented through a combination of PR campaigns and by using local, national and international networks, the Internet and other media as well as by arranging and participating in conferences.
This project includes both demonstration and research and will be divided into four sub-tasks covering the activities of design, implementation, use and dissemination. Primarily, SBi participates in the development of guidelines for design and during the dissemination phase.
