Recruitment of scientific staff at SBi
SBi employs scientific staff within the following categories
PhD students
A Master' degree is required and employment can only take place with a view to obtain a PhD.
Research assistant
A Master's degree is required and references are necessary from a person at the level of an associate professor. The term of the position is fixed at 1 year with the option of extending the overall term to max. 3 years.
The position involves research and/or teaching. A minor part of working hours may be spent on professional development or managing other tasks.
Researcher
A PhD is required. The position can be either for a fixed term or open ended. After 4 years at the most, a researcher with an open-ended contract may be upgraded to a position as associate professor, senior researcher or senior consultant. However, this depends on a professional assessment. A researcher with a fixed-term contract can be employed 6 years at the most.
The position involves research and provision of research-based services for authorities. Teaching may be omitted. Pedagogical up-grading will take place.
Senior researcher
A PhD is required and additional qualifications such as lecturer, post-doc, researcher or similar. The position can have either a fixed term or be open-ended.
The position involves research and research-based advising of authorities. A certain amount of teaching activities may occur (teaching may be omitted).
Professor
The candidate should have a high degree of original scientific articles published at the international level, a documented capacity for developing the research field in question and for being in charge of research management. The position can have either a fixed-term basis or be open-ended.
The position involves research and research-based teaching and services for authorities.
Professor with special task (MSO)
Qualifications required correspond to those of a regular professor. It is a fixed-term position.
The position involves development of a promising research field at an international level.
Senior consultant
Qualification required are either lecturer, postdoc, researcher or similar. It is either a fixed-term or an open-ended position.
The position involves research-based services for authorities and dissemination of research results. Teaching and research tasks may occur.
Recruitment procedure
At the recruitment of researchers, senior researchers, professors and senior consultants, a Professional Committee will make an assessment of the candidate's scientific achievements at the recommendation of the Recruitment Committee.
The Professional Committee consists of

- 1 external expert
The Recruitment Committee consists (as a main rule) of
