Legal status, strategy and economy
The Danish Building Research Institute (SBi) was established in 1947.
The Act on Government Research Institutes governs SBi and stipulates its purpose and scope and that SBi is attached to the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs.
A board lays down the general lines for SBi activities and research and approves the SBi budget. The board has eight external members and two members representing SBi staff.
SBi activities follow a multi-annual strategy and annual performance contracts that are negotiated with the Ministry of Economy and Business Affairs.
The annual turnover of the Institute reaches DKK 62 million with over half the amount derived from governmental sources and the rest derived from income from business activities, by selling publications and computer programs and from EU research funds.
The Institute's annual report outlines its activities and economy during the previous year.
